My Personal Journey with Shamanism
It’s simply wonderful to see so many more Shamanic curious folk these days.
For sure! It is encouraging to see so many people returning to the ancient ways of those who came before us.
People often ask me what Shamanism is … for me Shamanism is EVERYTHING, an honouring of all that is.
It is our connection to all that is, to all that exists, acknowledging that everything has a vibration and tuning into that.
I am a Shamanic practitioner and teacher and I have been practicing Shamanism as a spiritual practice for almost 20 years.
People also often ask me about my personal journey which i’ll guess began with my Rock Altars around the age of 7! Rock Altars, Angels and strong feelings towards the unseen.
In 2002 my friend Lorraine bought me a Reiki treatment with my first teacher Angie Litvinoff, which led on to years of deep healing and simultaneously, I also began working with a Shaman who had arrived in London from America. He offered group channelling sessions at a studio on Portobello Road and he seemed somehow to be able to hit the nail on the proverbial head to everyone’s questions as he channelled Divine beings, Archangels and Deities.
I had a couple of sessions with him one-to-one and in one he told me to remove the shackles off my wrists for 11 days and see what happened. At that point I had several gingly jangly large bracelets on as a matter of course.
So I removed the jewellery and well what happened was indeed as intense as it was incredible, as I felt the heat that started coming into my hands and I was guided to begin my Reiki training.
Still somewhat a sceptical party girl in the music business, I found myself having very VERY deep spiritual experiences and over the coming couple of years, I found myself leaving the music business and dedicating myself to my Spiritual path.
In 2005, I completed my Reiki Master training and Angie invited me to join her in the highlands In Scotland for a Summer Solstice Sweat lodge. It was then I met my Shamanic teacher, Twobirds.
I had NO idea what a Sweat lodge would entail! As I was googling it and wondering if I might even be able to be in a teeny tiny tent with a roaring fire and 13 other people sweating my prayers for 6 hours over 2 days and all the other questions that the mind will naturally throw up.
My dear friend Charlotte rang and invited me to join her for a gig in the highlands … the day before the sweatlodge, I mean there are signs and then there are SIGNS!
And so, in this divine alignment off I went to the highlands for my first Sweat lodge …
and alignment has been a constant theme over these past 18 years.
My journey with Shamanism truly began there on those hills in Scotland with Twobirds, the teacher who has trained me in the study of cross cultural Shamanism.
I began this journey in earnest and one sweat lodge led to another, led on to beginning studying these ancient ways and I spent countless Friday nights on the sleeper train heading up to Inverness from London and back down pulling into Euston at 8:15am on a Monday morning.
In 2009 I qualified as a Shamanic practitioner and last month, in October 2023 having returned to the wise wings of Twobirds, I have now qualified as a Shamanic teacher!
This has been a rich and deep journey for me and that is really what is on offer in the Shamanic path.
It’s a simple way to live, to tune into the vibrations of all that is.
A way to live in line with the turning of the year, a way to live honouring the earth and all her inhabitants, a way to live in harmony and love and a doorway to connect into extremely powerful levels of deep healing, healing for ourselves, each other and the planet.
EVERYTHING IS ALIVE! AND SO ARE WE!
Shamanism is over 4000 years old and was basically how we lived, in harmony with the earth, how we lived in community, with the healers, the poets, the story tellers, the medicine people.
When I met Kundalini Yoga in 2008, whilst I was still in my Shamanic training, I had such a strong reaction to this experience and I felt exactly the same as I did when I received a Shamanic healing.
And since then, these 2 practices, which indeed are so interwoven, have been the basis of my life, and all I do and for the foundation for all my offerings.
My next offering is BACK TO THE GARDEN, my annual LIVE ONLINE PROGRAMME and we begin on 6 January.
The weave is powerful, the results are potent and the path is beautiful.
